Ne pas confondre avec David Mason (tb, 1815-1889) des Coldstream Guards. Spécialiste de la tp picc. C’est après l’avoir entendu jouer le 2ème Concert Brandebourgeois que Paul McCartney l’engage pour enregistrer (payé 27,50 Livres) le solo de tp picc dans ‘Penny Lane’ : David Mason a utilisé une tp picc Couesnon ‘Monopole’ en si b (qu’il a vendu 6380 Livres après le succès du disque), ‘They were jolly high notes, quite taxing, but with the tapes rolling we did two takes as overdubs on top of the existing song’ (Mason a toujours nié la légende selon laquelle il ait joué le solo sur la tp standard et qu’on a augmenté la vitesse pour sonner comme une piccolo).
