Expérience : Pickwick Brass Band (1910), Niles’ Band (Morand Club, à Reserve, 1er engegement, avec Edmond Hall, cl, Clarence Hall, bj, Lionel Thomas, dm : répertoire de 3 morceaux, 1914), Lawrence & Duhé Orch. (1915-9, avec Marshall Lawrence, vln, Gilbert Duhé, vtb-tp), Elton Theodore (bj) (à Algiers, 1921), se fixe à New Orleans (1922), Jack Carey, ses Algiers Stompers (à partir de 1926 : devenu Kid Thomas & his Midnight Strutters, mai 1927, au Lyric Theatre, Kid Thomas’ Swing Band en 1936 au Specks Rodriguez’ Moulin Rouge à Marrero, 1935- 44 ; Westwego Dance Hall dans les années 1950 ; 1954-71 : ‘this band has been playing almost unchanged for over twenty years…as a working group dispensating dance music in far from sophisticated circumstances. This I think explains the very definite identity which the group has maintened even in latter days when local work has been far from continuous. It also explains why the music on this record-1968, LaCroix LP 4-and on their two Mono volumes -LP 14&15-is not exactly in the so-called New Orleans tradition’ -Ch. En 1984, il est malade et désigne Wendell Brunious pour le remplacer. A joué une tp Olds. ‘Kid Thomas likes to play numbers that the people want, whether they are old standards or the latest hits. He would buy a few pieces of sheet music every week and staff them into his ever present suitcase. If the dancers clapped hard enough after a tune, the band played it again, and the shaking started on the spot’ (Richard B. Il a de nombreux disciples dont l’un des meilleurs est Patrick Tevlin (Canada). Classé deuxième après Louis Armstrong au Jazzology Jazz Poll (1965). Archétype du jeu hot : ‘Kid Thomas is the ultimate hero, his control of tone and dynamics extraordinary and his energy superhuman as he leads, pushes and cuts across the path of the band in a series of explosions and bursts of notes’ (Ch.
