Lee. ‘Hinton had a high range that was said to surpass that of Armstrong. He could also bend blue notes into long, expressive moans and wails. In addition, as in the final exciting chorus of ‘Starvation Blues’ (Jesse Stone), he provided descant lines with a vibrato so intense as almost to constitute a ‘shake’’ (G. Schuller, Early Jazz, p289). Soliste hot.
